The bankruptcy of German steel trader Peter Drösser came as a complete surprise to most. In recent years, the company had still invested heavily.
Unique opportunity for those seeking Trumpf laser technology
These assets from Peter Drösser's former company are now coming on the market through Assets for Sale, including a number of young metalworking machines from Trumpf.
Peter Drösser GmbH is a well known name in the German manufacturing industry. The family business, which began in 1919 and grew into one of Germany's larger steel traders/processors, supplied steel and semi-finished products to various industries such as the automotive industry. Five years ago, the company moved from Köln-Mülheim to a new location in Loope, nearby. More capacity was needed to further develop from a steel trader to a provider of total steel solutions.
Invested in state-of-the-art technology
Because of the growth plans as well as the transition to being a provider of pre-finished steel products, Peter Drösser GmbH has invested in high-quality plate and tube processing technology from Trumpf until 2023. Just last year (2023), for example, an entirely new Trumpf TruArc Weld 1000 welding robot was installed in the company. This robotized welding cell with a Fronius TPS 320i C Pulse welding generator, is intended for series work, partially unmanned.
A year earlier, in 2022, the German steel shop commissioned a new TruLaser Tube 7000 from Trumpf for laser cutting XXL pipes and profiles. This state-of-the-art tube laser uses a 6 kW laser to cut the most complex geometries in both tube (up to 254 mm diameter and a maximum wall thickness of 10 mm) and rectangular profiles (up to a maximum side length of 220 mm).
The LoadMaster Tube 6.5 automatically loads tube lengths of up to 6500 mm into the machine. A third still very young Trumpf machine is a 2021 TruLaser 3030 L81 laser cutting machine. The machine with a TruDisk 10001 disk laser has run less than 17,000 operating hours.
Peter Drösser GmbH also invested heavily in automation for the new plant, such as the STOPA FAB-180219 pallet ordering system, good for 740 pallet locations (2,000 x 4,000 mm, maximum load weight 3,000 kg per pallet) giving a total storage capacity of 2,220 tons of sheet metal. Together with a VOMA 18-519 order picker and a VOMA vacuum lifter and several FROMM stacking tables, the STOPA warehouse was only installed in 2018.
Young machines with few running hours
“We are talking about several high-quality Trumpf machines. They are young Trumpf machines with few running hours that have been running until the last moment and have been well maintained,” says Yves Ensing, Business Development Manager at Assets for Sale that will market the assets originating from the former Peter Drösser GmbH.
That the young Trumpf machines are now being marketed as used machines stems from the bankruptcy of the family business last spring. Changing market conditions in recent years, such as first a sharp increase in steel prices, uncertainty in the market and ultimately slightly falling prices eroded the company's financial position. On March 1, 2024, the Cologne District Court declared bankruptcy due to the debt position.
In addition to Trumpf's TruLaser 3030, Trulaser 3040, TruLaser Tube 7000 and TruArc Weld 1000, a Trumpf MultiCut 06-40 metal shearer will also become available as well as a Trumpf TruBend 5230 press brake from 2011. Outside of the Trumpf machines, a Q-Fin deburring machine and state of the art Noppel powder coating line will also be offered. All machines are sold through Assets for Sale, part of the Dutch PIPM Group and are available immediately.
